Attendance & Progress

It is an expectation of Charnwood College that students arrive here punctually every day and are properly equipped to carry out their studies.

Our Aims:

1. To have a culture where good school attendance is embedded across all year groups.

2. To create a climate of ambition where good school attendance is imperative in enabling students to fulfil aspirational goals.

3. To have an annual absence rate and persistent absence rate that is at least equal to the national average.

To report your child's absence:

Telephone us on 01509 554 400 and press one for the attendance line (24 hour answer machine) on the first day of absence before 9am. Please state the child's name, tutor group and reason for absence.

An MCAS message can also be sent to report an absence.

For any support with attendance, speak to the child's tutor in the first instance and/or Head of Year.

For more serious concerns regarding attendance, please contact our Attendance Officer, Mrs S Ingle, on 01509 554 400 or email single@charnwoodcollege.org

Any requests for leave of absence need to be made in writing to office@charnwoodcollege.org and a decision will be made by the Principal, Mrs T Rowe.

Attendance forms an integral part of our pastoral structure as there is a strong link between attendance and academic achievements.

If a student does not attend they cannot get the best from their time at our academy.

“Central to raising standards in education and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is an assumption so widely understood that it is insufficiently stated – pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind. Children with poor attendance tend to achieve less in both primary and secondary school.”

90% attendance = 1⁄2 day missed every week, over a school year this is 4 weeks –100 lessons lost. Over 5 years at 90% this is half a year of education. 17 missed school days means that you could drop a whole GCSE grade in all subjects.

The greater the attendance the greater the achievement.
